WinGPS 5 - 2019

In 2019 we will focus our attention on improving on the user friendliness of WinGPS 5. Important parts in user friendliness are, for example, a clearer menu structure, better accessibility and findability of functions and an easier way to update GRIB files and shipping notifications.

In the last update for WinGPS 5 - 2018 we added the option to load IENC charts. For the 2019 edition we want to improve on this function and add extra options which make it possible to make optimal use of both IENC and DKW charts.

The Service Card 2019 was available from November 2018 up until February 25th 2019. If you want to upgrade to the 2019 edition of WinGPS 5 you can buy the upgrade versions from our webshop for € 70,-

The new editions of the DKW Imray charts are available for purchase in our online store as of today. Ideal for your voyages along the robust Atlantic coast, the culturally rich Mediterranean sea coasts or the Caribic paradise islands.

When purchased, you automatically gain the right to all updates to the chart set during 2019. When you have 2018 editions of any of these charts, you can buy a 2019 upgrade version of this chart for a reduced price. When in our shop, choose 'upgrade from', select the edition you have and follow the steps.

DKW Imray series 2019

Since 2009 Stentec Software publishes the famous Imray charts digitally. These are based on the paper charts and feature the same well known Imray colors. A great advantage of these charts is the large area coverage per set.

Below you will find a list of all 2018 editions of the Imray chart sets. Over 500 charts have been updated. A number of charts have been added to DKW ID50 and DKW ID70 for safer navigation around the Balearic islands and the Sea of Marmara. Because of these charts, it is now easier to sail to Istanbul and other islands. A new windmill park has been realised in the Sussex Bay. This has been added to the DKW ID20.

If you purchased the Imray charts in the presale, you can install the new 2019 editions directly in WinGPS. In WinGPS 5 (Windows) you will find the update in the News center and in WinGPS Marine (Android) the updates are shown during start up of the app. You will need a working internet connection when updating.

WinGPS 5 or WinGPS Marine

The DKW charts are compatible with both WinGPS 5 (for Windows) and WinGPS Marine (for Android). If you have both software packages it is possible to load these charts in both programs without having to buy extra licenses.

Our first chart release for 2019 is the well-known DKW 1800 series, based on the paper charts from the Dutch Hydrographical Service. Starting now, you can purchase the new chart sets in our webshop or download them for free if you bought the chart set during our pre sale. Free weekly BaZ updates The DKW 1800 series 2019 are fully updated and will be updated further according to the weekly BaZ updates for the entirety of 2019. Updating is easy in WinGPS 5 and the WinGPS Marine series. At startup, the charts will be checked for updates which can be downloaded directly (when a working internet connection is available). When you have a 2018 edition of the DKW 1800 series, the charts will no longer be updated. The last BaZ update was from week 52 of 2018. When you want to upgrade from the 2018 edition to the 2019 edition we offer a special upgrade price.

When your DKW 1800 edition is from 2017 or older, you can buy the new edition. You will be sailing with all updates for 2019, which will improve your safety.

Last week we released the last update for WinGPS 5 Pro & Voyager 2018. Below you will find a description of the updates, among which the addition of ENC charts and the new tidal data for 2019.

ENC charts in WinGPS 5 Pro & Voyager

WinGPS 5 Pro & Voyager 2018 now support the use of ENC sea and inland charts. This complies with the obligation of the new German law to use IENC on German water highways, as defined by the WSV. This update has been specially developed for commercial use.

Free IENC charts cab be downloaded via the website of Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch). This contains the larger water ways for the Netherlands, France, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slowakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Poland and the US.

With WinGPS 5 Pro & Voyager supporting ENC charts is an important step for us, skippers and commercial shipping. A big advantage is the possibility to combine the vector charts with our own hybrid (DKW) charts and the route network in WinGPS. Supporting both vector and grid charts gives us the opportunity to combine the best of both worlds for a safer and smarter navigational system aboard.

Our new software WinGPS Inland Navigation, expected spring 2019 and specifically developed for commercial inland shipping, has already been added to the accepted navigational software of the WSV. Follow this link for the actual list.

Current and tides 2019

When you have WinGPS 5 Pro or Voyager 2018, and are planning a trip along the North sea or Waddensea, don't forget to update the current and tidal information. This way you will have the correct data for the entire year.

This can easily be done via 'Help - find updates' and following the steps. Users of WinGPS Marine+ receive an update message at start up. After downloading, you will have the data for currents and tides for the entirety of 2019.
