New Sail Simulator 5.2 and Boatset 1 released

After one month of testing and improvements our new Boatset 1 is now officially released. To sail the new boats Sail Simulator must be updated to version 5.2.1.4 (425MB). The multiplayer sessions now are running on the fast server instaed of our slow test server in Heeg. Some improvements worth to mention:
- Faster loading of sceneries
- Bigger jib and smaller spi of the regatta Valk
- Italian manual added
- Relative to v5.1 the physics have been improved resulting in an even more realistic boat behaviour. Read more.
- Support for all new boats including the fast catamarans
Boatset 1 is a recommended add-on for Sail Simulator 5 as well as the Sail Simulator 2010 retail version. Installation allows you to take part of all multiplayer races organized, including with all new boats and the beautiful Heegermeer/Fluessen scenery in Friesland.

Virtual regatta sailing popular - 50.000 races sailed!

More and more regatta sailors are now sailing online regattas in the realistic virtual 3D environment of Sail Simulator 5.
According to the statistics on sailsimulator.com we have passed the 50.000 matches milestone now as well as 82.000 finished boats. The most popular boat is the 470, followed by the Stentec Laser and the Volvo Open 70. A fierce battle is taking place at the top of the rankings over the first place.
By releasing Boat Set 1 in September, we expanded the amount of boat types to 15, including fast catamarans. The first regattas have been sailed already with these. Meant to be used as a follow boat at regattas ,the RIB is also a popular choice for racing. Mind you, the points with it are not taken over to the (sail) ranking.
Participating in regattas is available for every license holder of Sail Simulator 5. You are online and able to meet other sailors quickly, by double clicking the Sail Simulator 5 Multiplayer icon. The new boats require you to have Boat Set 1.

The long expected Boatset 1 Add-on for Sail Simulatot 5 is now available. Complete on CD or as affordable download. Sail Simulator 5 users need to update to a new improved version 5.2 (366 MB). This update can also be found on the Add-on CD.
The set contains 11 boats, 6 of which are youth boats and 3 catamarans:
- Youth boats: Optimist, 420, Splash, Flash, Laser radial and 29er
- Catamarans: Hobie16, Hobie Tiger (F18) and Nacra Infusion (F18)
- Polyvalk instruction boat and fast RIB, both equipped with an outboard motor

Open Virtual 470 World Event with Sail Simulator 5

This week the 470 world cup competition takes place in Scheveningen. Stentec will be demonstrating it's new beta version of Sail Simulator 5 in the Brunotti Beach House this weekend.
Next week's wednesday and thursday (July 21 and 22) the world cup organisation, InPortRace and Stentec organised the Open Virtual 470 Worlds. This competition can be entered by anyone.

Beta Sail Simulator 5 and Boatset 1 released

The beta-version of Sail Simulator 5 and new Boatset 1 Add-on are now available on the Stentec server in Heeg. The menu of www.sailsimulator.com already shows the racing statistics of the beta.
If you did order your Boatset 1 online, log-in to your Stentec account, go to Download overview and download both the beta and Boatset1. Today an e-mail with license code and download links were sent to all who pre-ordered Boatset 1.
After installing the beta, you need to install Boatset 1. Then you have 11 new boats and Fluessen/Heergermeer as bonus scenery. The boatset contains: 29er, 420, Flash, Hobie 16, Hobie Tiger, Laser Radial, Nacra Infusion, Polyvalk, Optimist, Splash and a RIB to follow the races.
Beware !
- The beta can only be installed with an official license of Sail Simulator 5 or 2010.
- When installing the beta, the previous version will be removed and you can not participate to the official races, unless you re-install the previous version.

Release Boat Set 1 add on delayed until the end of May

The development of the 11 new boats in Sail Simulator 5 will take more time than we expected. This has mostly to do with the specific details of the boats. Eind april is een eerste interne testversie gemaakt met het merendeel van de boten.
At the end of April we sailed a Hobie 16 in front of the coast of Scheveningen. See the screenshot to the right. Underneath the bigger Hobie Tiger 18 on the Heegermeer. Both boats are without trapeze-lines but with high speed.
Creating the multiplayer surroundings will take us (at the least) a few weeks. The release date will be the 2nd half of June at the earliest.Possibly some weeks later. Read more about this fantastic upgrade in our previous news release.

Steeds meer licentiehouders van Sail Simulator 5 nemen deel aan online races. Van af de start in december zijn er meer dan 7500 races gestart en bijna 12000 boten gefinished. Er doen met het racen ruim 250 zeilers mee uit meer dan 35 landen met Nederland, Frankrijk en Duitsland op kop.Tijdens Boot Holland zeilden ook bezoekers van de Stentec Stand mee met de online races. Op de virtual experience van de komende Hiswa (Amsterdam Rai, 2-7 mrt) kunt u online racen zelfs op 7 PC's uitproberen.
Editie 2010 van Sail Simulator 5 wordt door de Nederlandse publisher Iceberg in West-Europa op de retailmarkt gebracht. Met een andere partij is er een distributiecontract gesloten voor Australia en New Zealand. Door de stijgende winkel en online verkoop zal ook het aantal online races sterk kunnen toenemen.
Hierop vooruitlopend wordt een Service ontwikkeld waarmee sessies op een snelle en betrouwbare dedicated server kunnen worden gedraaid. De bandbreedte wordt hierdoor met een factor 50 vergroot. Dit biedt mogelijkheden voor extra boten en een online demoversie.
Momenteel wordt er een add-on ontwikkeld met als nieuwe boten de Optimist, 420, 29er, Splash, Laser radial, Hobie 16, Hobie Tiger, Nacra F18 en een RIB als volgboot van de wedstrijden. De release wordt verwacht binnen enkele maanden.
Ranking system for new sail Simulator 5.1.6.0

The testing of the ranking system for Sail Simulator 5 have been successful. Within a couple of days more than hundred races have been sailed with about 50 sailors from several countries. Have a look at the Player Ranking lists at sailsimulator.com under community.The size of a multiplayer package has been reduced with up to a factor 7. This means that 4 full sessions of 16 ships of the 470 class can be sailed simultaniously. Also the number of sessions on which you can log-in has been doubled until 32.
Yesterday a new Sail Simulator 5.1.6.0 has been released with some modifications. Now the mainsail twist of the VOR70 can be adjusted again. Today a field with racing statistic has been placed on the homepage of www.sailsimulator.com including the class leaders and the top3 of the last sailed race.
Five hints for a high score
- Race against many strong, high score sailors.
- The winner gets additional points.
- On a course of 4 times the length, you will earn twice the number of points.
- Also if a race stops before you can finish, you will get points. How much depends how far you did come. So, don't give up and sail until the race stops.
- Start at least once a week otherwise you will loose 10% of your score.

A new Sail Simulator 5 update has been released. Download the v5.1.4.0 update to continue online sailing.

The first races with the new version have been sailed succesfully. Modifications to be mentioned:
- Improved stability of multiplayer sailing and racing.
- Blocking racing boats by non racers is not possible anymore.
- Using the auto pilot is now also possible while online racing.
- All reported bugs have been fixed.
- Improved high precision mouse control
- More realistic wind shadow of land and boats
- Leeward spinnaker sheet less tightened under automatic control.

Sail Simulator 5.1 released. Multiplayer testing started

In the evening of October 29 our new Sail Simulator 5.1 has been released. After 3 years of development a major milestone for our team, company and customers. With focus on graphics, physical realism and multiplayer we hope it will give a unmatched sailing experience to a growing community of virtual sailors. License holders can update to version 5.1 using the update button. The multiplayer option will now be tested with the first users and will be improved if necessary. Comment of online players is very much appreciated.
Also the new www.sailsimulator.com site is now online. At Community/Multiplayer sessions you will find a session list. You can Log-in using the multiplayer option in Sail Simulator 5. More information will follow.

Sail the Scheveningen coast with Sail Simulator 5

Stentec has released a fantastic new version of the Sail Simulator 5 especially for the 'Hiswa in-water boat show 2009'.
The most realistic sail simulator ever is not only for starting sailors. In the multiplayer mode, regattas can be organized trough a local network or the internet by competitive sailors.
With version 5.0.5.4 you may sail along the coast of Scheveningen. City, beach, pier and harbor are modeled into detail, so that you may enjoy an unsurpassed sailing experience. With the new racing centre of the 'Watersportverbond' and the North Sea regatta, Scheveningen has become the sailing city of The Netherlands. The 470 Worlds are organized there in 2010 as well.
You are able to sail with the Stentec Laser,470, Valk, YD40 and VOR70. A new addition is the Bavaria 36. Read more in the Bavaria magazine Blister, which is distributed on the Hiswa in-water boat show. Other areas you can sail are the sailing island Cabrera and Fantasy Island.
Wind and waves are dependant of weather- and lee shore and the height of the landscape. You sail into the open sea from a sheltered harbor. Thanks to the new techniques the graphics have been improved even more. You can set your pc to the optimal settings if the speed is influenced by the graphic quality. On a modern pc you will have a beautiful fluent simulation. With a mouse, joystick or keyboard you can steer your ship trough the waves.
License holders of Sail Simulator can update their version to v.5.0.5.4 for free by pressing the button 'update' (173MB). Visit us at the Hiswa in-water boat show for a demonstration (Stentec T220).

Virtual sailing pleasure with Sail Simulator 5 in the summer

Hanging in the trapeze and maneuvering the spinnaker in the 470. Standing on the centerboard after capsizing with the Laser. With the newest version 5.0.4.9 of Sail Simulator 5 it is possible to enjoy uncomplicated sailing. It is possible to organize an exciting sail competition with your friends as well.
Multiplayer racing is only possible with equal versions. License holders are advised to install the update (download 135MB).
The new version creates an unsurpassed sailing experience. Looking trough the crew's eyes everything seems realistic now. You may choose between a male or female team for the 470. This is fun when having a battle of the sexes.
The fast 470 is still a test model (Beta) in this version. With help of the International 470 Class Organization, this ship will be perfected for the release of a next update. Your opinions on this and other ships is appreciated highly.
The waves are now dependant on the free fetch, which you can notice if you sail into the open ocean from a covered bay. An important addition for multiplayer races is that the beneficial lee-effect (lift) and the covering because of wake has been modeled.

With the new v5.0.2.1 update Sail Simulator 5 has made some important improvements.The new chart viewer helps you navigate when you are sailing at Cabrera. With a click you can simply place yourself on another place of the map. This function is off course not available when you are racing in a multiplayer session.
Except yourself and the racetrack you can also see other players on the chart viewer. With this information you can make tactical decisions to win a race.
Important is fixing 2 major bugs in the Hiswa release.
1. An error occurred when sailing into the land.
2. Some graphic cards showed a white area instead of the Sail Simulator interface.
German language is now available. You can select the German language in the settings tab of the start screen. There is also a German manual available, you can access the manual when the configuration utility has been opened. Then click on the Help button.

Sail Simulator 5 released on Hiswa 2009

Stentec proudly presents the first version of our Sail Simulator 5 on the Hiswa 2009. This product was developed with the latest DirectX simulation technology to create an exceptionally realistic sailing experience.
You can sail with the spectacular Stentec Laser,the Dutch Valk National class (6,5m), the YD40 keel yacht or the fast Volvo Open 70 with adjustable canting keel. The fantastic sailing-island Cabrera was selected to become the meeting place for all sailors of the growing Sail Simulator 5 community. Cabrera is situated 10 nmiles south of Menorca in the Mediterranean Sea.
Sail Simulator 5 skippers have full control over the boat even in strong wind and high seas. Trim the sails and tighten the sheets to sail the boat at maximum speed.
Organize multiplayer races with other users through the Internet or local network (LAN). Outside Cabrera and Treasure Island we defined two racing tracks. Wind and waves can be set before the race.
In 2009 our team will continue to improve Sail Simulator using the latest technologies. Free updates with new boats and options will become available for license holders. You can follow the development on www.stentec.com. Your suggestions are appreciated.

De Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009 start 10 oktober en is zwaarder dan ooit met een etappe van 12.000Nm. Vandaag is de eerste In-Port-Race in Alicante.
