Dear Stentec customer,
Important updates WinGPS 4-series released!
Major updates of WinGPS 4 Lite, 4 Navigator, 4 Pro and the demo-versions have been released. Click on the links for the release history. Off-line activation is functional again and in 4 Pro the repeater, log and AP can be used again.
The WinGPS 4 Pro has new buttons and colored tracks to optimize the search for drowning persons by the SOAD and the KLPD (Dutch North Sea Police), using a laptop on board.
Updating your version is strongly recommended. This is easy using the Search for Update option under Help. The latest version also can be downloaded through Product Activation (on our site) / Manage your account / Activation overview. The new Lite and demo-versions can be downloaded from our GPS-freeware page.
Updating your 2007 charts is not enough !
A WinGPS 4 Pro user send us the following track of a sailing trip from Terschelling to Wemeldinge (North Sea coast near Zeeland). Freely translated:
"We sailed in the Geul van de Banjaard for the coast of Schouwen. After the GB 9 we noticed in line the OR 4 as our next buoy. As illustrated in the figure we had to navigate first to the OR 2. We were lucky not to come aground. In fact the GB 9 should be paired with a red GB 10, but this was not the case.
The moral: Especially when your in doubt about which buoy to take, then updated chart on board is a good thing. Stentec provides an almost 2-weekly update service for the DKW1800-series charts. For avoiding an unpleasant grounding this is not enough: You also have to consult your updated chart !!"
Until May 31 license holders of 4 or more 1800/2006 chart sets can upgrade to DKW1800 Complete at a very affordable price. Other popular 2007 chart sets are the DL02 German Bight and UK01 (East coast England), both from Navkom and the Baltic Sea combipacks from NV-Verlag.
