Short summer news about new products.

Dear Laptop Navigator,

New DKW Manager now fully supports NV-Verlag's new nv.digital format
Due to a bug in the Maptech SDK a small number of nv.digital charts could not be installed for WinGPS 4. This has been fixed in the new DKW Manager v1.3.11.0 that uses native BSB code instead of the Maptech SDK.

De-installation and installation with the new DKW Manager is recommended for FR1, DE1 and NV1 and other CD's where some charts are missing.

A increasing number of NV-Digital CD's and combipacks (CD+ paper chart set) can be purchased in our online shop and in one of our shops in Heeg or Utrecht.

New Netbooks based on Intel's ATOM processor ideal for GPS navigation on board !
The first netbooks have been appeared on the market. These low energy small notebooks might be very interesting especially for long sailing trips. A test was performed of the Medion E1210 netbook with 10'screen. This model is a special affordable version of the coming MSI Wind. Stentec want to offer this kind of netbooks as 'Stentec Navbooks' completely installed with WinGPS 4 Navigator, Pro or Voyager and digital charts, ready for GPS Navigation.

Read about our first tests of the Medion E1210 under XP as Navbook with WinGPS 4 Navigator below:

  • Fast Internet and downloading grib files and BaZ updates for 1800-series.
  • Clear screen, bright enough for on board (estimated 400 Nit). The 1024*600 pixels are wide enough for WinGPS 4 plus extra chart view.
  • Our Motorboat Simulator 1.2 and Sail Simulator 4.2 are running fluently and without problems.
  • Battery 11.1 V, 2200 mAh for 2.5 hours use. This is about 12 Watt (to be tested soon). The 19V 3.4A power adaptor seems a bit overpowered. We will test if the E1210 can be powered from the 12V board grid (max 1A).
  • The 1 GB RAM and 1.6 GHz dual core ATOM processor gives enough speed to run even WinGPS Voyager. On the 80GB 2.5" hard disc you can practically install as many digital charts and pictures as you want.
  • The E1210 does not have Bluetooth (unlike the MSI Wind), but a GPS mouse op de USB port works fine too. There totally 3 USB ports, so you can use one for a normal mouse and say MEA multiplexer to connect more instruments or an AIS receiver.
Conclusion: Although this first tested XP netbook lacks Bluetooth it seems ideal for GPS navigation with WinGPS on board. From mid next week this Stentec Navbook will be presented in our showroom of our shop in Utrecht, probably connected to an external transflective, daylight monitor , the new Planar XL1200TI with 6 handy keys connected to short cuts in WinGPS (€ 995 ex VAT).

For an impression of our new shop in Utrecht have a look at the pictures below. Location and Opening hours).

Kind regards,
