Transparency on sails

Just for demo, it's possible to put some transparency on sails if you're not afraid to work on dds file

It's quiet convenient when you have a opponent just behind you and you can't see you boat because of his sails !

I've tried to change the Alpha layer on Open 70, YD 40 and Bavaria 36 to put some transparency on sails without success but I saw that these sail's files are saved in DXT1 format, all other boats are saved in DXT5 format and I can put transparency. Is it the reason I can't put transparency on sails ? Did somebody else tried to do it also ? Did you succeed ?

I have not tried to change skin of VOR sails up to now, only 470... But yes it's good to have semi-transparent sails ! Not so realistic as the opaque ones coming with the original software, but sometimes in the races it is worth having a little bit more visibility !

Here is my first trail with 470, an approximation of the 470 I owned when I was much younger...

OK, I see no problem adjusting alpha layer with VOR70 skins. As a first trail I just applied on the genaker a chess texture, saved the dds file in DXT3 format, and I get this :

But did you try main sail ?

Hehe... Yes you're right, there is a problem for getting transparent sails on SS5 VOR !
I suceeded with the gennaker but not on the mainsail, it seems the software doesn't operate the same way applying the dds texture.
Anybody has a idea how to progress on this topic?

After upgrading SS5 from 5.1.7.2 to 5.2.0.2 I had a bad surprise with the 470 sails skin. My custom skin dated 2010 april didn't fit well :


Actually, 470 sails skin design is a little bit modified on 5.2.0.2 version. So I had to redraw my old sails skin... In the present zipfile is the adapted one :

I have also replaced the spinnaker file, removed the all-green one, put black and pink colors instead, avoiding confusion with green arrows used by SS5 for marks indication.

It would be nice if Stentec could allow players to add transparency on sails for VOR70, Bavaria, Valk spinnaker, etc.... When you race in fleet and you have somebody behind you, you see nothing at all and even when you are alone, it's difficult to see the mark front of you. Why transprency works on some boats/sails and not on others ? Is it due to DXT1/DXT5 format ?

Is it possible to customize sail patterns and colors? I would love to customize a h16 to match one of my real ones.
