Various issues

Various issues

Postby Pastries » Fri 26 Aug 2011 - 16:07

Hello to all.

I'm having some issues with the multiplayer sessions, three actually. I posted this same message in the multiplayer section, but I got no answer (are there no mods around ?), and this section looks more active, I hope you'll be able to help me.

The first two concern the internet sessions. About two in three sessions lead to a crash while the location is loading (An error has occured...Would you like to send the report to Stentec by email...). And when I do manage to join a session, after a few minutes of playing, the other boats suddenly stop, and a message tells me that the connection with the server was lost.

The last issue is of least importance, it concerns the LAN option for multiplayer sessions. I just don't know how to find what must be written in the "server name". If tried the IP adress as said, and various other names, but nothing works.

And finally, I have a question. How come I never see more than about twenty other players on internet sessions, are there some other servers I don't know of ?

Thank you very much.

Server problems at large seem due to connection instabillity. When the server does not receive updates of boats speed and its position, the boat is halted, if there is no response or valid data for ca. 6 seconds the server will drop the connection.
The player is removed from the session. If you see some boats (not all) pause or drop out, the problem is limited to those players. If you see all boats pause, presume you are not receiving data from the server in a timely manner, if that lasts for ca. 6 seconds the game will drop the connection to the server and you drop out of the race.

Using private servers seams to be an option especially while players can be closer to the server (Australia, USA etc.) and because there will be less players on the server.

Using Teamspeak 3 you can join us in Teamspeak server (download teamspeak client http://teamspeak.com/ )
server: vivarace.de
port: default

or go to the vivarace racecenter and click on one of the available channels http://vivarace.de/randr/

How to set up private servers, publicizing online status of private servers at vivarace etc.
NB. you need to set up NAT, or port forwarding in your router, firewall aswell as open the ports on your gaming machine.

If you feel you are capable of configuring your system to run a private server, yet have questions, feel free to ask here or at any of the links above, in forums, chats or teasmpeak channel.

Okay, thanks, I still don't understand how less than twenty persons are enough to make the stentec server slow...

I'll try how. Could you explain how it works please ?

Thanks for your help.

PS : I just saw the manual.
