GPS navigation on your laptop
WinGPS 5 Voyager is an interactive route planner which you may install on your (Windows) laptop. By connecting your onboard instruments, you change your laptop into a complete navigation system.
The biggest added value of WinGPS Voyager compared to Pro is the route optimalization thanks to using a polar diagram. A polar diagram explains the speed of a ship during different courses and wind speeds and is therefore unique for every ship. When you download the GRIB files in Voyager and set a route, the optimal route for your ship will be created. This function is only for sailboats.
By moving the time slide, you are able to look ahead in time, showing you the forecast of wind, current and even AIS traffic.
The route planner allows you to create a route quickly and simply by entering your measurements once. Then set your destination and Voyager will create a sailable route for you, looking at bridges and locks.
AIS-XT
This will show the AIS traffic over your charts fluently. With their MMSI and Callsign you may call them if needed. The CPA alarm will warn you if a collision is possible.
The ships will be shown at a proper scale (like your own ship) when zoomed in on them.
The expected track can be displayed over your charts. This makes judging a passage or crossing a corner much safer, since you can look forward in time with the time slide.

A great advantage of WinGPS Voyager is the possibility to prepare your routes at home. You may install the software on 2 systems. This allows you to prepare everything in the comfort of your own home with a large screen. Especially when visiting The Waddensea.
